Orange Cupcakes with Dulce de Leche Buttercream


Orange Cupcakes

  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 orange (wash the skin very well)

Dulce de Leche Buttercream

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 Tbsp. powdered sugar
  • 1 1/4 cup dulce de leche ( I used Gaucho Ranch)


Orange Cupcakes

  • Preheat oven to 350 F. Prepare muffin baking pan with liners.
  • In a medium bowl combine flour, baking soda and baking powder. Set aside.
  • In a separate bowl beat butter and sugar with electric mixer until smooth and fluffy.
  • Add eggs, each at a time. Mix all ingredients well together.
  • Add sour cream and combine until all ingredients are incorporated.
  • Zest the orange skin and squeeze the orange to get all the juice from it. Add the zest and juice to the wet batter and mix..
  • Add dry ingredients to the wet batter and just mix all ingredients until well combined.
  • Pour the batter into the liners (about 3/4 high).
  • Bake for 20 – 25 minutes until inserted toothpick will come out clean.
  • Remove from oven and cool off on wire rack.

Dulce de Leche Buttercream

  • In a medium bowl mix butter with electric mixer until smooth.
  • Add powdered sugar and mix for 2 minutes.
  • Add dulce the leche and mix until all ingredients will combine well.
  • Frost the cupcakes with dulce de leche buttercream.
