Cultivars of the bell pepper plant produce fruits in different colors, including red, yellow, orange, green, brown, white, and even purple. Green, red, orange, and yellow are the most common. Bell peppers have a tangy taste and a crunchy texture. Like the name indicates, the vegetable is bell-shaped and features either three or four lobes. These peppers can be grown in a variety of climates, which makes them popular in many areas of the world.

Raw bell peppers are mainly composed of water. The water content is 92 percent. Vitamin content is also high in bell peppers, especially vitamin C. Other vitamins and minerals found in bell peppers include vitamin K1, vitamin E, vitamin A, folate, and potassium. Bell peppers are also a good source of iron. This is especially true for red bell peppers. Iron has been linked to the prevention and reduction of anemia.
