Keep Your Produce Fresh

  1. Always store salad greens and fresh herbs in bags filled with little air. Seal tightly.
  2. Lettuce and other greens do best when kept in your refrigerator’s crisper.
  3. Do not wash your produce until ready to eat.
  4. Do not cut your produce until ready to eat… sliced fruit and vegetables will spoil faster.
  5. Keep citrus fruits away from direct sunlight. They can be stored on your counter but will do better in the refrigerator. If you choose to put them in your refrigerator, make sure to use a plastic bag.
  6. Never put your fruits and vegetables next to anything that may put off heat, such as your stove.
  7. Do not overstock your refrigerator… and keep it clean! This all helps with better air circulation for your fresh produce.
  8. Berries need plastic containers with lids. If you do not buy them this way, change their storage when you get home. They are more fragile and should not be exposed to a lot of air.
  9. Keep bananas, avocados, and tomatoes separate from all other produce. These products emit ethylene, a gas that causes ripening. This could harm your other produce.
  10. Buy only what you need… buy your produce as you plan to use it.
